Research Studies

The Institute on Aging serves as the gateway to many age-related research projects being conducted at the University of Pittsburgh, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and the Pittsburgh Veterans Healthcare System.

Research studies, also known as clinical trials, examine the effect of various experimental treatments and therapies to identify better ways health care professionals may treat diseases and conditions. Participating in a research study has many benefits. As a research study participant, you take an active part in your health care, have access to innovative new treatments, and have the satisfaction of knowing your contribution to medical research is helping advance medical care for others.

To help explain the process, risks, and benefits of participating in a research study as well as provide answers to some commonly asked questions, the University of Pittsburgh Office of Clinical Research provides a number of resources.

The table below lists studies currently being conducted. For additional information, contact the Office of Clinical Research at 412-648-9516.
