Paying for Rehabilitation
The goal of rehabilitation is to help patients obtain their highest level
of functioning and independence in all facets of personal, family, work,
and community life. Rehabilitation may take place in one of three settings,
and based on your condition or injuries, your doctor will determine which
program is best for you:
- inpatient
Inpatient rehabilitation focuses on intensive therapy after a patient's
hospital stay. A patient may be transferred to a hospital-based specialty
unit, a rehabilitation facility or a skilled nursing facility. Each
of these settings can meet a patient's specific rehabilitative needs.
- outpatient
Outpatient rehabilitation is for patients who have been released from
the hospital and are able to travel to an outpatient rehabilitation
setting for therapy.
- home-based
Home-based rehabilitation is designed for patients who no longer require
a hospital stay, but are homebound because of their condition or injury.
Rehabilitation services include:
Regardless of which program you participate in or how long your scheduled
rehabilitation lasts, your recovery depends upon you continuing the rehabilitation
exercises on your own. Your therapist will explain the types of exercises
