Medical Transportation

Medical transportation providers submit claims to insurance companies and the facilities, as appropriate. They will send statements about the billings to you. Contact the insurance provider for specific coverage information, including criteria, deductibles and copays.

Capitated programs, such as Hospice and Long-term Capitated Assistance Program, Continuous Care Retirement Communities and Nursing Home Care, may include medical transportation.

Commercial Insurance
UPMC Prehospital Care non-emergency medical transport may be covered in part by insurance.

Managed Care Insurance
Managed care insurance companies identify their “network” health systems; contact their representatives to discuss how that may impact reimbursement.

Medicare
Medicare does not cover routine medical transportation.

Medical Assistance
Medical Assistance and Medical Assistance Health Choices pay for medical transportation. Contact your county medical assistance transportation representative to arrange services.

U.S. Veteran's Benefits
U.S. Veteran's Benefits may cover medical transportation. Contact them for more information.
