Assisted Living

Long-term Care Insurance
Long-term Care Insurance policies may include coverage for Assisted Living. Benefits vary depending upon the individual policies. If you have long-term care insurance, check your policy or call the insurance company to find out if the care you need is covered.

Medicare
Currently, there is no reimbursement available from Medicare or Medical Assistance (MA) for room and board for assisted living or personal care facilities. Limited supplement for room and board is available for those elderly who qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. A person residing in a personal care home may be eligible for the home health, home medical equipment, and more under Medicare and personal care under the Medical Assistance OPTIONS program and the “Waiver programs,” assuming the person meets the eligibility criteria.

Your Out-Of-Pocket Costs
Assisted Living or Personal Care is primarily covered by private pay.
