Paying for Adult Day Care

Most older adults prefer to live at home in the company of family and friends. Adult day care can help older adults to remain in their homes rather than being placed in a nursing facility or a personal care residential home.

Adult day care is a planned program in a community setting. It provides services such as socialization, recreation, nutrition, transportation, supervision, basic personal care, reality orientation, and self-help training during the day. Adult day care facilities in Pennsylvania, depending on the setting, may include medical help such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, basic medical care, nursing care, and more intensive personal care.

Additionally, this service provides a respite for caregivers allowing them to work outside the home or take a break from the daily regime of 24-hour care giving.
