Older AdultsAlzheimer Disease Research Center: Memory Disorders ClinicADRC Memory Disorders Clinic The Alzheimer Disease Research Center (ADRC) is one of 28 such centers in the country funded by the National Institute on Aging. The ADRC is a formal program in research and clinical care of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and related dementias. Through the ADRC, a Memory Disorders Clinic (MDC) provides outpatient evaluation and referral services for adults over the age of 40 who are experiencing memory loss, disorientation, or poor judgment—all possible signs of Alzheimer’s disease. Accurate diagnoses are established through an interdisciplinary approach with evaluations in neurology, psychiatry, neuropsychology, medicine, and social work. After diagnosis, patients are either seen at the clinic and given the opportunity to participate in various research studies, or the MDC coordinates care appointments with ADRC physicians in the Department of Neurology’s Diagnostic and Treatment Clinic. The MDC provides counseling and recommendations on the availability of community resources, legal and financial planning, and supportive services to patients and caregivers.
