Richard Schulz is Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the University Center for Social and Urban Research at the University of Pittsburgh. He has spent most of his career doing research and writing on adult development and aging. Much of his research has focused on the effects of disabling late-life illnesses on patients and their families; his work has appeared in major medical, psychology, and aging journals. In recognition of his contributions to research on aging, he was the year 2000 recipient of the prestigious Kleemeier Award from the Gerontological Society of America and the Developmental Health Research Award from the American Psychological Association in 2003.
