University of Pittsburgh Educational Opportunities

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute through the University of Pittsburgh Learning Solutions at the College of General Studies offers educational programs for individuals who are retired or semi-retired, age 55 or over. In February of 2005, the first group of students age 55 and older will enroll. Read more.

UPMC Educational Opportunities

UPMC Classes and Events
UPMC sponsors events and classes for older adults, which are hosted at UPMC hospitals and other convenient area locations. Topics include:
  • nutrition for people with diabetes and other conditions
  • weight management seminars
  • exercise seminars geared toward older adults, such as Tai Chi, PACE (People with Arthritis Can Exercise), and osteoporosis strength training
  • driving safety programs
  • respiratory-based programs such as smoking cessation, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • health enhancement programs including stress management courses
  • durable power of attorney and other elder law classes
The Institute on Aging and UPMC sponsor regular town meetings and other gatherings to keep the local community informed.
