Continuing Medical Education Programs
Educational programs for practicing physicians are
offered by the University of Pittsburgh’s Center
for Continuing Education in the Health Sciences through grand rounds,
seminars, conferences, and self-learning.
For psychiatrists and mental health professionals,
the Western
Psychiatric Office of Education and Regional Programming (OERP) offers
information on upcoming educational opportunities.

fellowship-trained and/or board-certified in geriatrics, as well
as physicians who have a practice with a geriatric focus.

Clinical
Research Training in Geriatric Psychiatry
For post-residency psychiatrists and PhDs in
behavioral science and neuroscience, the Clinical Research Training
in Geriatric Psychiatry program offers training on conducting research
in late-life mood disorders. Experience is gained through fundamental
training at the Mental Health Intervention Research Center for
Late-Life Mood Disorders and Alzheimer Disease Research Center.
Leadership in Long Term Care and Three Peas Program
Also know as the 3 Peas Heretofore Not in a Pod training series, this annual program takes a novel approach to interdisciplinary education. Designed to promote improved quality of nursing home care, the program requires the medical director, director of nursing, and nursing home administrator to participate together as a team to develop more effective nursing home leadership. The program was developed in collaboration with the Geriatric Education Center of Pennsylvania.
