Educators and StudentsHigh School StudentsThe Pennsylvania Governor's School for Health Care The health care field increasingly demands highly skilled and knowledgeable practitioners who are well versed in the economical, cultural, and personal implications for patients and also understand the needs of rural, urban and under-served areas in the state. The Pennsylvania Governor's School for Health Care introduces an elite group of high school students to the world of health care each summer, emphasizing the health care delivery system, primary care, prevention, public health, career exploration, and healthy communities. As part of the school’s curriculum, the University of Pittsburgh’s Division of Geriatrics expands students’ knowledge of issues affecting the health of today’s aging population through a Concentration in Geriatrics track course. The Pennsylvania Governor's School for Health Care The Pennsylvania Governor's School for Health Care (PGSHC) is a five-week program held in June and July for 110 students from across the state who are interested in learning more about health care and health care careers. The program focuses on exposing students to the health care delivery system, learning about the importance of primary care, and understanding how to serve as a community advocate to address Pennsylvania's health care needs. Over the course of the five-week program, faculty members of the Division of Geriatrics offer an in-depth look into the field of geriatrics through a variety of courses and sessions that include topics such as:
